Introduction
NMIT has been offering quality education and training since it was first established as the Collingwood Technical School in 1912. Nearly a century later, this nationally accredited technical and further education institute remains one of Australia’s premier centres of vocational learning.
NMIT has six campuses and six training centres, all with modern facilities that cater directly for its innovative, practical courses. With over 67,000 enrolments from both Australia and overseas, NMIT currently delivers more than 500 full and part-time nationally accredited courses to prepare students for the creative challenges of a changing workplace.

NMIT Facilities Include:
- two wineries (100 tonne and 200 tonne) for the production of high quality wines
- Aquaculture Training and Applied Research Centre, incorporating both freshwater and marine systems
- 300 hectare working thoroughbred (horse) stud where students learn a range of equine studies
- a fully operational modern restaurant and bistro at the Preston campus and another bistro at Collingwood for hospitality students
- fully equipped commercial kitchens for students studying cookery courses
- advanced robotics and the latest computing technologies for manufacturing engineering students
- a modern hairdressing training studio and beauty salon furnished with the latest equipment
- audio editing facilities where performing arts students can edit with the very best technology
- a recording studio, television studio, and performing arts theatre for students of sound production, music performance and entertainment
- photography, art and jewellery studios
- various art galleries where students can showcase their creative endeavours.
- a brand new, state-of-the-art Technical Education Centre at Heidelberg accommodating 300 students, featuring general learning and trade workshops, as well as student support facilities.
