THE UNIVERSITY OF CANBERRA – AUSTRALIA’S CAPITAL UNIVERSITY

Located in Canberra, the nation’s capital, the University occupies a unique position at the intersection of government policy and corporate endeavour.
The campus is a safe haven of clean air, tall trees, native vegetation, our resident kangaroos and white cockatoos. Despite its serene bushland feel, it is just 10 minutes from the city centre and within walking distance of a major shopping and entertainment complex.
University of Canberra degrees and qualifications are respected and accepted world-wide. There is an extensive portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate courses on offer from seven faculties, Applied Science, Arts and Design, Business and Government, Education, Health, Information Sciences and Engineering and Law.
The University is home to a thriving research culture. Our scholars shape and influence public debate in their areas of expertise and pass on their knowledge through our many high quality practical courses.
There are learning support centres, a central library, 24/7 computer rooms, laboratories, studios, workshops a student-run communication agency and campus wide wireless internet access. Comprehensive student support programs are in place covering everything from academic assistance to health and counselling.
Professional Preparation for Professional Careers
As the philosopher Plutarch observed: The mind is not a vessel to be filled – but a fire to be kindled. The University of Canberra prides itself on delivering graduates equipped with the skills and attributes necessary to succeed in their chosen professions. There is a strong focus on creative and critical thinking and work integrated learning. This coupled with access to professional skills, networks and internships prepares students for their professional life and makes our graduates popular with employers.
Once again in 2010 the University was awarded the maximum 5 Stars for getting a job and graduate outcomes by the Australian Good Universities Guide.
Many of our students go on to responsible senior positions and careers in the professions, the corporate world and the government public services of many countries. Others have become prominent writers, designers, journalists and sports men and women.
Vibrant Social Life
Concentrated study needs to be balanced with relaxation. The campus offers a variety of coffee shops, restaurants and fast food outlets. There are many clubs and societies to join and a fully equipped fitness centre with weight rooms, cardio classes, basketball, squash and volleyball courts. Cycling, horse riding, canoeing, walking, sailing and hot air ballooning are all popular. The University is just two and a half hours by bus or car from either the mountains for winter skiing and summer hiking or the pristine beaches of the South Coast for swimming surfing or diving. The city of Sydney is 45 minutes by air, 190 minutes by bus.
Over 1600 students from every state in Australia and some 80 different countries reside on campus; others live nearby in shared accommodation or take advantage of homestay opportunities. There are many fresh food suppliers and Asian supermarkets nearby.
